With people staying more at home and preparing their own meals, no wonder the industry abounds in appliances and devices designed to make cooking easier and faster. When it comes to baking, broiling, toasting, roasting, and even defrosting, people opt for either a toaster oven or a traditional oven because these are the most efficient and versatile. If you can’t decide which of the two should you use, here is a comparison that will determine whether the toaster oven or the traditional oven is best.

Versatility

Traditional ovens are used for any cooking process needed in a recipe, from baking to defrosting to broiling, but toaster ovens are catching up with some useful features that enable them to perform a variety of functions. Back in the days, toaster ovens used to resemble toaster and were used to toast bread but nowadays they can be used for defrosting, baking, roasting, toasting, or broiling. Therefore, the choice could limit to personal preferences rather than performance or versatility.

Pan size

A great advantage of toaster ovens is the compact size that requires less counter space, which is something you should take into account if you are planning to add another oven to your kitchen. However, the small size can also become a drawback as it will limit your cooking size, considering a toaster oven won’t fit a regular size pan. Traditional ovens fit large pans, even full commercial pans if you opt for an over-sized model, but a toaster oven will be problematic if you want to bake larger amounts.

Pan placement

Toaster ovens usually come with one or two pan positions, which can affect the way your goods will bake. With a traditional oven, you can select up to 4 different places to put the pan so you have more flexibility in positioning the food closer or further to the heating elements. This is essential if you are making a recipe that requires the pan to be placed at a certain distance from the heat. You can solve part of the issue by using a piece of foil to prevent burning.

Savings

Traditional ovens are larger, more powerful, and use more energy than the smaller toaster ovens, so it you are concern about your consumption, you might want to use a toaster oven. It warms faster that the traditional oven and can bake the food faster, which also limits the amount of heat it creates, especially during the hot season. If you want to reduce the amount of food you prepare and eat, you should opt for a toaster oven instead of a traditional one.
